hunthausen family fund
The Hunthausen Family Fund was established at Good Samaritan Ministries in July 2018 to create a “hand-up” approach to reducing homelessness. This fund was formed
in honor of three siblings, Archbishop Raymond Hunthausen, Father John (Jack) Hunthausen, and Sister Edna Hunthausen, who championed social justice, and worked for the poor and needy in Montana.
Hunthausen award grants help move men, women, and children from shelters and transitional housing into more stable, permanent housing.
By helping to pay a deposit and first month’s rent, the Hunthausen Family Fund assures a sense of home and a positive start to a stable living situation. The fund is unique to any other grant or funding from Good Samaritan Ministries or other area agencies by including both a grant and loan portion, up to $1,250 each or $2,500 total. Since the inception of the Hunthausen Family Fund, 50 families have been helped to find a place to call home.
Contact our Assistance Coordinator to schedule an appointment at 406.442.0780. Once an application is submitted, three staff members will review the application and either approve or deny it. The application requires copies of your Social Security Card, identification card/driver’s license, pay stubs, a list of your current bills, and a summary of your circumstances and why you need help. If your application is approved, we will provide you with paperwork for your landlord to complete and will schedule an appointment with you to finalize the paperwork. At that point, a check will be written.
Those receiving assistance from the Hunthausen Family Fund have one (1) year to repay half of the amount received back to Good Samaritan Ministries. We will work with you to establish a payment plan that is feasible in order to help you out of debt and into stability.
