If you've seen our iconic white truck with our red logo driving around town, chances are our friendly truck driver Mark Dlugosz is behind the wheel. Always armed with a cup of coffee and a smile, this helpful employee is always willing to go the extra step to help you get your thrift store donations to our floor. We sat down with Mark to learn more about him and his time with Good Samaritan Ministries:
When did you first start working at Good Samaritan?
Started working here 8 years ago in the summer – Fall 2008 A friend knew of the job, I walked in and Theresa hired me on the spot. I was on the dock and then went to the drive the truck. The dock is a good stepping stone to any position here because you get used to sorting donations and get used to customers – everything you need for other positions
After a year working at Good Samaritan you left for another opportunity, what brought you back all these years later?
Yeah I came back April of this year! I heard Theresa was back (because she also had left Good Sam and came back!) I just always liked her style of management so I came back. A few of us did, it seemed like the core group was reuniting.
What was the biggest change you noticed coming back after all these years? GSM hadn’t been renovated yet, that was taking place the first time I was here. The offices hadn’t been made, the store has expanded a lot!
What do you like about working at Good Samaritan Ministries?
Its more altruistic than most jobs- we help a lot of people. I like the customers, I like helping the customers. I enjoy driving the truck- [our pick up service] is very important for people that have limited mobility, it’s a great service to go to them and help them. They always thank me after the pick up- they are very appreciative
Anything else? Just remind people: We do deliver, as well as pick up!
A donation to Good Samaritan Ministries in your loved one's name is the perfect gift this season!
We are incredibly blessed in Helena to have such giving and caring community members. Christmas is truly a time to give back, as we see by the countless people who come to donate their time volunteering, or Adopt a Family for Christmas, or donate their gently used goods to those who are less fortunate.
When you are doing your holiday shopping, and needing that last gift please consider making a donation to Good Samaritan Ministries to help your neighbor who is struggling. Giving a donation in your loved one’s honor is a perfect way not only to give, but to give back! A gift to Good Samaritan is a gift of hope.
You can donate to Good Samaritan Ministries and you will receive a custom certificate to give to your loved one.
Simply designate your gift as a Christmas gift and list the name of those who you are honoring.
You can also designate to which fund your donation will go:
1) The Assistance Ministry: helps struggling families and individuals with bills, rent, utilities, car repair, medical needs and much more
2) The Hunthausen Fund: Our newest Ministry to house the working poor in the Greater Helena Area, this fund will help clients with security deposits and first month’s rent in order to achieve stable housing.
The certificate will be created at the time of your donation when given at the Good Samaritan Thrift Store 3067 N. Montana Ave or will be emailed to you if you choose to donate online.
Take your certificate home and place it under the tree. Your loved one will be thrilled to know that your generosity has helped so many people in need right in your neighborhood.
Thank you for generously sharing and caring this holiday season.Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

May the miracle of Christmas fill our hearts with hope and gladness. Together we can make a difference by bringing Christ's love to those in need.
It's all about KARMA!
Give a little, throw it out to the wind and your good deed will be rewarded.
One of our volunteers, specifically from the fashion show, was asked after the show to run and get a six pack of soda for a couple of the staff. She was directed to go to a store she had never been to before, and hey, since it was a new store for her, decided to buy a lottery ticket. She didn't think much of the ticket and stuffed it in her purse. As she was laying down for the evening decided to scratch off the ticket. BAMB! she won a 2017 Jeep.
Needless to say we were very excited for her! Just goes to show, when you do good things, sometimes good things happen! Have a great day!
Affording heating bills in the winter cold is a challenge for those living in poverty.
Good Samaritan helps keep the power on when those struggling need a little extra help.
Days are shorter which means early darkness and cold days and nights. Utility bills are higher and more crucial than ever.
Many of us take for granted that at the flip of a switch we have heat, light and power. But so many have to choose between lights & warm water or paying their rent this month.
When a struggling family needs help paying a utility shut off notice, they can come to Good Samaritan for relief. It is because of your donations that their lights stay on. Thank you for your gift and support
Every year Good Samaritan provides a site for Free Tax Help Clinic through Rural Dynamics. This clinic takes place every tax season, stay tuned for more information about tax season 2018!
The thrift store was a successful location for many, including one such individual “Jennifer”. Late January Jennifer came to the office asking if she would qualify for free tax help. It was apparent she was very nervous and upset about her taxes. As we assessed her income and found she was eligible for free tax help she began to share her personal story. Jennifer was a single mom who had endured many struggles, including a poor work history- She now has a steady job but is living on a low income. The one struggle that weighed heaviest on her understandably was being behind not one year, but three on her taxes.
We let her know the days and times Free Tax Help office were open at Good Sam Thrift Store and invited her back. Almost the whole tax season had passed, and We didn’t see Jennifer- which is not unusual. But just the other day Jennifer came into the office eager to share some news. With great excitement she exclaimed that her past three years of taxes are complete! She related how nervous she was to sit with someone to talk about her taxes and face being so far behind. With tears in her eyes she talked of how kind “the man” was and how he took special care to not make her feel ashamed. “He told me it was fear that I could not get them done- I had become so afraid I just kept putting it off and didn’t know where to go, he made me feel better about myself, and let me know we would work on them together”. She laughed and said….Do you know I again waited until the very last minute I was so afraid!
Thank you Rural Dynamics for working with so many in need of tax help. Sometimes we make change one person at a time, you have helped Jennifer in more way then you will ever imagine.

We are so thankful for a community that is so responsive and helpful in local emergencies. This fire season is a bad one, but we can always count on those around us to step up and help!
Last week when the rain and snowy weather started, an organization called National Incident Management came to Good Samaritan Ministries with a request.
This organization coordinates the national mobilization of resources for those fighting wild land fires. There was a group of Job Corps Volunteers working on containing the Alice Creek wildfire fifteen miles northeast of Lincoln. This group was severely lacking in proper gear that suited the cold weather.
Good Samartian Assistance Ministry had all new coats, hats, socks, and sweatshirts on hand thanks to a donation from the Zumiez Foundation. We gave National Incident Management 50 of each coats, hats ,socks and sweatshirts for the brave fire fighters to help with their situation.
It takes a community effort like this to help in emergencies. That is Good Samaritan's Mission to be there to help. Thank you for your support of us and our Community. God Bless the fire fighters and all those helping on the home front!
