"Charlene" came to Good Samaritan in a panic. She’d been experiencing issues with the brakes on her car for a few months, but because she had no funds to pay for the repair she was avoiding getting it fixed. Charlene is a widow who lives on survivors benefits since her husband passed away a year ago. When "Charlene" came into Good Samaritan she’d just left an auto repair shop where she found out that her brakes were metal on metal. The repair shop would not release the vehicle to her because it was in such dangerous condition.
"Charlene" was frantic and told us she has weekly doctors appointments to manage her health conditions. She was also concerned because other seniors in her building count on her for rides around town.
Seniors and those on a fixed income struggle when an unexpected expense occurs. When living on a tight budget a cracked tooth or a flat tire can cause significant financial hardship.
Not only is transportation vital for "Charlene" and her neighbors to access basic needs but a way for them to foster self sufficiency and independence.
Because of your support Good Samaritan’s Assistance Ministry was able to help "Charlene" and many others with critical auto repairs to get them safely back on the open road.
